Aldo Bini
The 38th edition of the Giro di Lombardia was held on October 17, 1942. World War 2 escalated and crept eerily closer to Italy. Lack of resources caused the race to be shortened to 184 km. Official's and support vehicles were very limited. BUT the race went on as scheduled…!
Bianchi’s Aldo Bini sprinted away from a 30 rider peloton to win the 1942 Lombardia. Legnano’s Gino Bartali finished in second place.
